Keep a long-term portfolio on course
A disciplined approach to asset allocation, implementation, rebalancing and review - always connected to the goals the portfolio serves.
Our investment philosophy
A portfolio process designed to be repeatable
Asset allocation does most of the strategic work. We then select suitable building blocks, monitor the agreed mix and make changes for a clear planning reason - not because a particular market has recently attracted attention.
Global diversification
Holdings are spread across developed and emerging markets so results do not depend on a narrow group of shares, sectors or economies.
Low-cost implementation
Fund and platform costs are examined alongside suitability. Avoiding needless complexity and expense leaves a greater share of any return in the portfolio.
Rules-based rebalancing
Rebalancing restores the agreed asset mix after markets move. Clear tolerances make this a portfolio-maintenance decision rather than an attempt to predict the next market turn.
Responsible overlay
Where requested, responsible-investment preferences can be discussed alongside diversification, cost and risk, including the compromises different screens may introduce.
Evidence beats speculation
Behaviour can undermine a sensible portfolio, particularly during abrupt rises or falls. An agreed process creates discipline around rebalancing and helps separate genuine changes in your needs from short-lived market anxiety.
Diversification cannot prevent losses, but it avoids concentrating the outcome in one idea. Cost awareness and a long horizon complement that approach, while regular suitability checks keep the portfolio relevant to you.
A solid foundation for your investments
Our philosophy asks which decisions investors can control. Diversification, cost, risk level and behaviour provide a practical foundation; short-term returns and market events do not.
Our short film "Investing: The Evidence" introduces the research behind active, passive and factor approaches, and shows why evaluating an investment method requires more than looking at recent performance.
Research becomes useful only when it is applied to a real objective. Your time horizon, required return and capacity for loss turn those principles into a personal portfolio brief.
Common investment questions
What do you invest in?
Portfolios usually use diversified funds covering a wide range of global companies and bonds. The allocation and underlying solution depend on your financial plan and personal risk profile.
Why don't you pick stocks?
Predicting which individual shares will lead the market is not a dependable planning method. Diversification gives us a more robust way to capture market growth without relying on a handful of calls.
How do you manage risk?
Risk is managed through suitability work, diversification and the balance between growth and defensive assets. Monitoring and rebalancing help preserve that intended balance over time.
What are your fees?
Advice is normally charged as a fixed fee, settled and agreed before any work starts. Where a percentage charge would be cheaper for a smaller portfolio, we will explain that option. Underlying funds typically cost 0.2-0.4%, against an FCA-reported active fund average of 0.89%. Platform charges are separate from advice and underlying fund charges; we disclose the full cost before implementation.
